Blog Journal #9

I was in an asynchronous section of EME2040. I liked that I could work on the assignments relatively at my own pace, as long as I stayed on schedule. It worked well with the rest of my classes and work. Sometimes the Canvas page felt cluttered, and I would have to scroll for a long time to find an article in a sea of information, which I didn't like. When I'm a teacher, I might have a table of contents on my class website so that students can find the unit they're looking for. This way, they can go directly to that unit and have a lot less things to weed through. But of course I do understand the limitations of Canvas!

Open educational resources are those that can be accessed and used by everyone. They're often found online, and can be used for free--they can even sometimes be edited and shared. The University of Pittsburgh LibGuides compiled a list of OERs that are available. The list has sites for images, multimedia, complete courses, and more.

From working on the Powerpoint for Information Dissemination, I learned how to create a slide layout and how to add it to the master list. I also learned how to number each slide, and add my name to be displayed when it's printed out. Something I liked about this assignment was being able to briefly teach on a topic I find interesting. However, I didn't like the SmartArt element, but it's just something I have to learn more about so I can find my style and how to effectively use it. (Picture below of part of the assignment)

  1. Hi Students World!
I enjoyed reading your post and I do have to share similar thoughts on our Canvas page. At the beginning of the semester, I was very confused on the structure of this course and struggled to directly find resources. However, with time I understood how it was organized into weekly modules that would be posted at the beginning of the week.

  2. Hi Student's World! I enjoyed reading your post! I have also enjoyed being able to work on assignments at my own pace. I also am not a big fan of the SmartArt elements available on PowerPoint.
